Process
First
You will choose one part of a plant or animal cell to research.
Choose one part from the list below:
- Membranes
- Cell Walls
- Cytoplasm
- Nucleus
- Centrioles
- Ribosomes
- Mitochondria
- Chloroplasts
- Endo. Reticulum
- Golgi Complex
- Vacuoles
- Microfilaments/Microtubules
- Lysosomes
Report back to Ms. Pack to confirm your chosen part. Then, you will begin your research. Use the internet to review the sites below and learn more about your chosen part.
Use the following websites below for your research:
http://www.biology4kids.com/map.html - Explains functions for each part.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSn03gSqV88 - Video that overviews each part of a cell.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zafJKbMPA8 - Cells rap video that explains the roles of parts in a cell.
http://www.neok12.com/Cell-Structures.htm - Individual videos for each part of a cell.
Second
You will use your research findings to create a brochure to showcase your chosen part.
Your brochure will include the following criteria:
-At least three reasons why your part is important to the cell
-At least two roles your part has in the cell
-A picture of your cell part
-Organization and clean design
Remember the key to the brochure is to convince others how important your part is to the cell and why you need to stay in the cell. Focus on your part when creating the brochure.
You may use Word or construction paper with markers/colored pencils to create your brochure.

Third
You will join with your other classmates who chose the same part and participate in a class debate. You will use your brochures and share with your group members about the information you found to help win the debate. If nobody else has your part, you can either work alone or join someone else who isn't in a group.
The debate process will begin with two groups discussing the importance of your cell part. Each group will debate for one minute. When the time is over, the audience will vote for the winner of the debate. The process will continue until one cell part is left and will be deemed the winner. Afterwards, the class will discuss the importance of all the cell parts in the debate.
Every person will speak and be graded by the following criteria:
-Content
-Audible
-Enthusiasm
-Vocabulary
-Prepared
